About
Drawing on traditional Indian portraiture, my work combines elements of vibrant western culture juxtaposed against the serenity and nobility of my Sikh background. I am drawn to the way that paintings capture a dreamlike, spacial quality and the vivid colours that western artists like Cy Twombly and Henri Matisse have in common with Indian painting.
I work using a number of mediums, from painting to digital. I aim to capture an atmosphere and create visual harmonies. My work looks at discussing my identity whether it be religion, gender or culture. I find it important to represent my history and be unafraid to discuss these in my work. I do so in a subtle manner, ensuring that the work is also visually stimulating and not just contextually.
